Helsinki Wood City

Wood City is an urban development in the Jatkasaari / Ruohlahti area of Helsinki which utilises wood frame multi storey construction techniques. It consists of 2 apartment blocks, a commercial office building for Supercell finished in 2021 and a proposed hotel as the final phase.

The construction technique for the apartments is Cross Laminated Timber (CLT), the construction ran into some problems but they were successfully overcome.

The development sits at the top of the Ruohlahti Canal and hopefully shows a way forward for large scale CLT projects as Renewables, carbon footprints and sustainability come into play in all construction work.

The Architects for this project were Anttinen Oiva Arkkitehdit Oy or AOA .
